History will be made in St Fergal’s College this week as the school will host the first-ever school musical in the 87 years of secondary level education in Rathdowney.
The students are to bring the audience on a magical journey as Belle, a bright and independent young woman, finds herself in a mysterious castle, home to a fearsome beast.
With a lively cast of characters, including talking household items, this heartwarming tale explores themes of love, acceptance, and inner beauty.
Perfect for audiences of all ages, ‘Beauty and the Beast Jr‘ is a shorter adaptation of the beloved Disney classic, filled with memorable songs and enchanting moments.
The idea was conceived by teacher, Paul O’Dea and he says excitement is building.
He said: ”We are delighted to be bringing a school musical to St. Fergal’s College.
“The students, from 2nd year to 6th year, have been working hard memorising lines, singing and dancing over the last few months to bring you what we hope will be a great night’s entertainment.
“The introduction of the school musical allows us to showcase the talent we have among our students in St. Fergal’s, as many would have witnessed at our concert last year with Rebecca Storm.
“It is also a great experience for students to put themselves out of their comfort zones.
“Many of the students in the cast have never been on stage before so their participation and willingness is a massive achievement for them as young adults.”
The show takes place next week, on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 January in Rathdowney Community Centre at 8pm.
