A Laois County Councillor has sought to prioritise the state of the county’s roads as local politics begins a busy 2024.
Cllr John Joe Fennelly was speaking at the Portlaoise Municipal District meeting this week, where he raised three different motions concerning the roads in the area.
Cllr Fennelly began by calling on Laois County Council to include the road from Ironmills, Ballinakill to the county boundary on the Council’s 2024 Roads Programme.
Mr Wes Wilkinson, Senior Executive Engineer said the Portlaoise MD Office will examine the stretch of road for consideration as part of the Resurfacing Programme.
Next, the Fianna Fail Cllr asked that the Council install speed limit markings on the road from the Golf Club on the Ballyroan Road, Abbeyleix to the Green Road Junction.
Mr Wilkinson said the Portlaoise MD Office will make arrangements to install necessary road markings on the aforementioned stretch of road.
Cllr Fennelly ended by calling on Laois County Council to clean the drain that runs along the road at Clonking, Abbeyleix Road, Ballinakill.
Mr Wilkinson said he will meet Cllr Fennelly on site to examine the drainage at this location and make arrangements to address the issue as appropriate.
Meanwhile, Labour Cllr Marie Tuohy called on the Council repair the dip in the road on Bridge Street just past the ramp near the disability parking bay.
Again, Mr Wilkinson said he will arrange to meet Cllr Tuohy at the location in the hope of finding a suitable resolution.
