There are limited spaces still available for an upcoming Internet Safety Workshop for parents, guardians and children in 3rd to 6th class.
The workshop will explore key topics such as social media, gaming, and protecting personal information.
Brian Phelan has sponsored the workshop, which will take place on Thursday, January 18 at 6.30pm.
The venue will be the Innovation Centre in Borris-in-Ossory.
The workshop will cover the following:
– The damaging physical and psychological effects of bullying and the potential scourge of cyber-bullying via technology (mobile phones, social networking sites, online gaming).
– Digital age of consent for certain games and apps.
– How much is too much screen time?
– Blocking and reporting on Snapchat and Instagram
– The question of anonymity online
– Necessary ‘netiquette’
– What Parents can do – roles, rules and responsibilities – with useful websites and resources
The workshop will be given by Marion Flanagan M.Ed., an experienced and trained tutor with the Anti Bullying Centre DCU.
She worked as a full time advisor with PDST in this area and currently works with Hibernia teacher training college and as an Associate with Oide.
