It was a busy couple of days in Laois over the weekend for An Garda Síochána, who reported multiple car seizures across the county.
Abbeyleix Gardai were on patrol Saturday evening, January 13 when they stopped a car around Rathdowney.
The car had no insurance displayed on it, no tax, and the NCT was out of date since 2022.
The vehicle was seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.
Meanwhile, Laois Roads Policing unit stopped a vehicle near Portarlington on Sunday, January 14 after an insurance alert.
- The tax on the vehicle was out 1169 days,
- The NCT expired in July 2020,
- The driver admitted there was no insurance on the vehicle.
The vehicle was seized and court proceedings have commenced.
This follows on from a number of vehicles have been seized from uninsured drivers last week.
Laois Roads Policing Unit on patrols during the week have been utilising the updated Garda Mobility App with live up to date insurance details available from insurance providers and the motor insurers bureau of Ireland.
The number of cars seized is expected to see a major rise as a result of this new feature available on the roadside
An Garda Síochána also reported a recent sheep kill in the Emo area on Sunday.
“We again are reminding dog owners of the harm their pets can cause if let roam free or unsecured and not kept under effectual control,” a Garda statement said.
“With dog ownership comes responsibility. Secure your dog, have it microchipped and registered with your vet.
“This time of year we see issues with sheep kills when dogs attack livestock.
“Dogs should not be allowed roam. It is lambing season.
“Please keep your family pet under effectual control.”
