A Laois County Councillor has demanded that safety works are carried out at what he described as a ‘deadly dangerous’ junction at a Laois primary school.
Fianna Fail’s Seamus McDonald made the comments in relation to a junction near Clonaghadoo National School.
He said: “This is deadly dangerous. It is a junction for four roads and there is no stop sign.”
Fianna Fail’s Paddy Bracken said: “We were promised works here before but they never happened.”
Engineer Edmond Kenny said that Laois County Council will examine the safety issues and consider what steps can be taken.
In a second motion, Cllr McDonald asked that the bridge at Meelick in Rosenallis be repaired.
He said: “A van or truck hit it at some stage in November and it badly needs attention.”
Engineer Kenny said that the bridge would be inspected and then include for repair on an upcoming maintenance programme.
Finally, Cllr McDonald asked that the Council resolve the flooding issue at Gerry Brennan’s house in Brockera, Ballyfin.
He said: “This is a serious issue in wet weather with water running into the property and just outside on the road.”
Once again, engineer Kenny said the issue would be inspected and remedial works undertaken.
