The First Home Scheme ceiling has been rasied with immediate effect in Laois from €350,000 to €375,000.
The First Home Scheme is primarily targeted at first-time buyers and self-builders who are seeking to buy a newly constructed home, but who cannot secure the full amount required from their mortgage and deposit.
This scheme aims to bridge the gap for eligible purchasers between the total amount people can raise through their deposit and mortgage, and the price of their new chosen home.
Minister Sean Fleming said housing continues to be a top priority of Fianna Fáil in Government.
He said: “With the First Home Scheme our aim is to make home ownership achievable for thousands of more individuals and families.
“The Scheme has also recently expanded to include self-builds.
“The raising of the First Home Scheme ceiling with immediate effect in Laois is hugely welcome news. It means that up to now the scheme was available for houses that cost up to €350,000 but it will now be available to those whose chosen home is above that figure and below €375,000.
“This increase of this price ceiling of €25,000 will help many people buy/build their first home.
“This scheme has helped many people in Laois own their first home and the increase in the ceiling limit will help many more people to do so.
“We will continue to support first-time buyers as a priority with tax rebates and other financial supports to help them own their own home.
“Our Housing for All plan, the most ambitious housing plan in the history of the State, is taking hold, with record commencements, completions and first-time buyer purchases seen across 2023.
“My focus is on doing whatever I can to keep this positive momentum going and doing everything I can to help more people to afford their own home.”
