There is deep sadness in Portlaoise following the tragic and unexpected passing of Shane Lynch.
Shane, 23, from St Brigid’s Place in Portlaoise, died on Friday, December 29.
A past pupil of Portlaoise CBS, Shane is predeceased by his father Willie.
He is deeply regretted by his heartbroken mother Kathleen, sisters Tara, Katie, Nicole and Shannon, brothers Dylan and Aaron.
Also by his nieces, nephews, grandmother Betty Lynch, brothers in law, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
Shane was an extremely talented soccer player and played for Old Fort Celtic in the Kildare League in recent years.
They took to social media last night and paid tribute to their player.
They said: “It’s with a heavy heart we share this news on the passing of our very own Shane Lynch.
“Our team mate, our friend, our brother. We love tou always, you leave a hole in all our hearts that we will spend a lifetime trying to fill.
“Our condolences to all your family and friends at this time.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h’anam dílis.”
A GoFundMe to support the Lynch family has been set up by Shane’s friends.
It says: “Please help support the Lynch family throughout this extremely sad and difficult time.
“Shane sadly passed away unexpectedly and he will dearly missed by everyone who knew him. He leaves an unforgettable imprint on the hearts of everyone.
“Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated and all proceeds will go directly to the Lynch family.”
Shane will be reposing at Keegan’s funeral home portlaoise on Sunday evening from 6.30pm until 8pm. Rosary will take place at 7.30pm.
Shane’s Requiem mass will take place on Monday at 12 noon in SS Peter and Paul’s Church Portlaoise.
Interment will follow in SS Peter and Paul’s cemetery.
