Mountrath Community School were crowned Leinster ‘B’ Second Year hurling champions in Fenagh this afternoon.
The Laois outfit were much too strong for Colaiste Eoin of Dublin in the decider.
The side, coached by Laois senior hurler Aaron Dunphy and Tipperary native Michael Breen, had 19 points to spare in the end.
The foundations for the win were laid in the first half where they absolutely blitzed their opponents.
Castletown’s Daniel Whelan notched two first half goals while Camross’ Luke Hynes grabbed a third.
Clough-Ballacolla’s Fergal Brennan and Mountrath’s Donnacha Carroll were among the point scorers as Mountrath led 3-11 to 0-3 at half time.
Rathdowney-Errill’s Kyle Hancock and Colt-Shanahoe’s Paddy Farrell were dominant in midfield.
While Castletown duo Sean Phelan and Conor Ryan won basically every ball in defence.
Colasite Eoin did improve in the second half and added 2-5 to their first half tally.
But Mountrath had more goals as Camross’ LJ Cuddy got his name on the board while Daniel Whelan also completed his hat-trick.
After winning North Leinster glory last month, Mountrath now have a Leinster title under their belts.
