Local Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley has said that the final negotiations to secure a site for a health centre in Mountrath are now due to happen.
“The site earmarked for the relocation of the Health Centre and the construction of a new building is now due to enter the final stages of negotiations,” said Stanley.
The proposed site on the Portlaoise Road, Mountrath is on a site owned by the “Land Aggregation Scheme’’ which is a unit of the Department of Housing and Local Government.
He said: “I raised it with the Secretary General of the Department Graham Doyle and his management team when they attended the Public Accounts Committee recently, and in a follow up since I have impressed on them the need for the site to be secured.
“This week I spoke with HSE management about it. The site in question would be a section of the lands on the Portlaoise Road that is to be utilised for housing.’’
Stanley added: “While the HSE did consider expanding the existing Health Centre on the Link Road, the site is too small to allow for this.
“The site being proposed for the new centre is ideally situated to allow for the construction of a more substantial build to cater for the growing population of the Mountrath Area.
“The acquisition of it by the HSE is subject to Department of Local Government approval and I have urged both HSE management and Department management to conclude this deal in a timely manner.’’
