There is sadness in Portlaoise this week following the passing of a well regarded and admired former Garda inspector.
Michael Morris, of Colliers Lane, Kilminchy, Portlaoise, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 20.
Originally from Kinvara in Galway, Mr Morris was initially stationed in Donegal before moving down to Portlaoise in September 1974.
He is remembered by former colleagues as a very nice man who was held in high regard by those who worked with him.
He was well very liked by young members of the force and is remembered as someone who treated these with respect and gave up his time to help them.
Michael is predeceased by his daughter Pauline and survived by his loving wife Peggy, sons Kieran and Michael plus daughters Michelle and Mary.
Cherished grandfather to his 15 grandchildren and his two great grandchildren – Alex and Leo.
Michael is deeply regretted by his sisters Breda, Eileen, and Mary, sons in law John and Eamon, daughters in law Tracy and Catriona and his nephews and nieces and his wider family circle and his friends and neighbours.
Michael will be reposing at Keegan’s funeral home on Thursday, December 21 from 6.30pm untill 8pm with rosary at 7.30pm.
Removal will take place on Friday, December 22, to arrive at SS Peter and Paul’s Church for 12 noon requiem mass.
Interment will follow in SS Peter and Paul’s cemetery, Portlaoise.
