The sale of vapes to people under the age of 18 is set to be banned from this Friday, December 22.

The first element of the Public Health (Tobacco Products and Nicotine Inhaling Products) Bill comes into effect this week, which will ban the sale of single-use disposable vapes to people under the age of 18.

The legislation also bans the self-service sale of these products, so young people will not be able to buy single-use disposable vapes through this method either.

The Government is also banning the advertising of vapes around schools and bus stops.

These elements of the legislation will be enforced throughout 2024.

Laois TD Sean Fleming has welcomed the ban as he says they are detrimental to your health.

He said: “I am pleased to see this significant step in banning the sale of these harmful products to people.

“Recently, I was invited by a number of Laois schools to discuss with them the Government’s legislation and the effects of smoking vapes.

“We are staunchly in favour of preventing people from using these hazardous products that can lead to detrimental effects on your health, but can also lead to people smoking cigarettes.

“Fianna Fáil introduced the smoking ban in the workplace and we are committed to furthering a ban on harmful nicotine inhaling products.”
