A call for a pedestrian crossing at a new housing estate in Stradbally has been made once again.
Independent Councill Aisling Moran brought forward the issue at a recent meeting of the Graiguecullen-Portarlington Municipal District.
She asked that a crossing be put connecting the Court View estate to the pharmacy on the opposite side of the road.
Cllr Moran said: “It is a no brainer there especially with people coming out of the estate.
“At the Vicarstown junction there, there needs to be a yellow box also.”
Senior Engineer at Roads, Mr Paul McLoughlin said: “Laois County Council will assess the need for a Pedestrian Crossing at the location in the context of the existing crossing provision in Stradbally along this section of the N80.
“The provision of Pedestrian Crossings on National Roads is subject to the TII approval process and subsequent allocation of funding.”
Fianna Fail Cllr, Paschal McEvoy, said he had previously requested a pedestrian crossing at the location.
“I put this same motion and I got the same answer,” he said.
“Hopefully someone in Transport Infrastructure Ireland(TII) will agreee.
“I totally agree with the motion. It is badly needed.”
Cllr Moran also asked that the Council relieve the flooding at the entrance to Rossmore View in Killeshin.
Engineer Philip McVeigh said that an inspection had been carried out and improvement works were due for early next year.
Finally, Cllr Moran as that the road from Barrowhouse Church to the Athy Road be included on the Roads Programme for 2024.
Engineer McVeigh said that this request would be considered.
