After winning nine National medals last year Emo Rath A.C. thought things couldn’t get any better this year, but they did, going one better with an amazing haul of ten National Medals.
Under 15 athlete, Cillin Hoey had another exceptional year, following on from his four gold medals at National level last year which won him the National Start Award, he won five Leinster golds this year including a Championship record, three silver National medals and two bronze medals.
The pinnacle of Cillin’s year came just a fortnight ago when he was also selected to compete in Cardiff in the Schools international combined events. Along with fellow Laois athlete Daniel Downey they won silver team medals.
This was also an exceptional year for leaving cert student and under 19 athlete Chloe Keenan. Chloe’s medal haul this year included Two gold medals, two silver and two bronze medals at Leinster, where she was also awarded the Leinster Star Award.
Chloe also won Two gold medals and two bronze medals at Nationals, which included 100m hurdles, Heptathlon, long jump and triple jump. The pinnacle of Chloe’s year was being selected by Athletics Leinster to compete at the CSIT World Games in Italy in September, where she won two silver medals.
The Club also won its first National Senior medal when Eoin Keenan won bronze in the National Senior Indoor long jump. Eoin also won the Leinster Senior indoor triple jump.
Our younger juvenile athletes also did well, with sisters Aoileann and Sadhbh ni Comhraidhe representing Laois in Cross Country and their brother Tadhg putting in good times over 5k.
In his first year of competition versatile athlete Kian Day has shown great promise, competing on track and cross-country and also winning the Vicarstown juvenile Park Run.
