A group of Junior Cert students from Portlaoise College embarked on a momentous journey to Áras an Uachtaráin recently.
They were invited along to witness an Ambassadorial credentials ceremony for the Ambassadors of Uganda, Laos and the Republic of Malawi.
The atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement as the students, accompanied by Principal Mr Daly, Ms Wilson, Ms Bergin, and their class teach Mr Walsh, gathered for this prestigious occasion.
The event was organised as the group’s CSPE CBA, and they were greeted by Clnl Walsh, one of the Presidents Aide de Camps.
They had a tour of the Aras from Cpl Martin before witnessing the credential ceremonies.
Mr. Daly said: “It’s not every day that students get to witness diplomacy in action.
“This experience will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on them.”
The highlight of the visit was the opportunity to meet President Michael D. Higgins in person.
The students were not only impressed by the grandeur of Áras an Uachtaráin but also by the warm welcome they received from the President and his incredibly accommodating staff.
It was an educational and inspiring experience that will undoubtedly live long in the memory of Mr. Walsh’s 3F CSPE class.
