The Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Department at Mountrath Community School ran a hugely successful Think Languages Day which is organised through the Post Primary Languages Ireland.
The day involved the entire Transition Year group of fun and activities. The school was lucky to receive a language workshop hosted by Solenn Ryan.
A group of 27 students spent the day with Solenn learning about the art of felt making and learning how to make felt.
The rest of the students spent the day watching the opening ceremony hosted by the Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI).
They then learned how to sing Christmas songs using sign language.
The school is very fortunate to have opened a hard of hearing classroom this year and Mr Brennan along with Ms. Ni Bhroin taught the students to sign I’m Dreaming of White Christmas and Merry Christmas Everyone.
There was a language quiz where the winning team won vouchers sponsored by the school Principal, Ms. Kathryn O’Brien. Finally, students took part in a Chinese Calligraphy workshop.
The Champion Team who helped organise the day along with their teachers spent the week promoting the event handing out language games, badges, stickers and prizes to students encouraging them to speak in a different language to their friends.
They worked very hard this week and huge credit is due to them. The Team was made up of Ellie Jones, Cheola Danne, Rachel Bohan, Muireann Bennett, Aine Quinn and Elisha Gilligan.
Mountrath CS looks forward to hosting the event again next year.
