The Laois Arthouse in Stradbally are currently presenting DÚLRA – an exhibition by the Stradbally Library Painters.
DÚRLA is their first group exhibition, which opened on Thursday November 30 at 7pm at the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally.
The Stradbally Library Painters began their journey in the Autumn of 2021, meeting on Wednesdays in the Stradbally Library as part of the LOETB community education programme.
Library staff from Laois County Council assisted the group by organising local art tutors to support them with tuition in various painting techniques.
Over time, the group has grown in size and artistic merit, allowing the Stradbally Artists Collective to develop. DÚRLA is the group’s first exhibition.
The group worked with tutors, Billy Dollard, Orla McDonagh, Angela Delaney, and Aishling Hennessy and tuition was funded by the Laois Library Service and supported by the LOETB. The exhibition is curated by Portlaoise based artist, Aishling Hennessy.
The exhibition encompasses each artist’s vision of their inner and outer landscapes – with DÚRLA (meaning Nature and The Environment in Irish).
The nine artists exhibiting in DÚLRA are, Frances Cummins, Maura Delaney, Kathleen Devoy, Margaret Devoy, Jim Kehoe, Christy Moran, Brendan Scully, Marie Walsh (Ruddy), and Siobhan Wheatley.
DÚLRA runs until Friday, December 15. The paintings have been beautifully framed and would make a welcome Christmas present.
The purchased paintings can be collected on the 15th of December from 1 to 4pm when the exhibition concludes.
