A Laois community is set to come together this weekend to remember loved ones who have passed away.
The Crettyard Ladies GFC Annual Remembrance Tree will officially be switched on this Sunday.
First erected in 2020, this has become a permanent fixture on the calendar.
And it will be lit up on Sunday, December 3 at 5pm at Newtown Cross.
Crettyard Ladies Secretary Eoin Delaney explained what will happen on Sunday and encouraged people to attend.
He said: “The sole focus of the Remembrance Tree in the first year in 2020 was to remember people we lost during Covid and also people who passed away in the Parish over the years.
“It has now become a big Parish event where we not only remember everyone we’ve lost but also a joyous occasion to celebrate Christmas.
“Ribbons to write your loved ones names on are available in all local stores and from any committee member. You can also get some on the day.
“We are inviting all kids to make lanterns to light on the evening. Santa will also be making a big appearance!
“There will be music and a Christmas cake sale in the GAA clubhouse afterwards with more music and entertainment.”
