There was a record increase of 65% in the number of local authority housing completions in Laois in 2023, as compared to 2022.
In 2023, so far, 507 homes have been built by Laois County Council.
In 2022, there were 308 homes completed – a major increase year on year.
This 65% increase is the highest increase by any county in the country.
Laois TD Sean Fleming, Minister of State, welcomes the news, and said this progress will continue in 2024.
“I am proud to say that we are exceeding all targets for building private homes and social homes,” Deputy Fleming said.
“Since 2020, when Fianna Fáil entered Government, there has been a significant ramping up on the number of house building and home completions in the County.
“Providing homes for people is a priority for me and is a core value of Fianna Fáil in this Government.
“I am pleased to see this significant increase in Laois, which will help many families to hold the keys to their own homes.
“I want to compliment Laois County Council, the Approved Housing Bodies and the construction companies for all their hard work in the building these homes for people and families in Laois.”
