In a heartwarming display of compassion and solidarity, the students of St Mary’s CBS recently organised a fundraiser to tackle the issue of homelessness in the community.

As part of their CSPE (Civic, Social, and Political Education) action project, these young activists embarked on a mission to raise funds for Focus Ireland, a charity dedicated to helping those without a place to call home.

The fundraiser, which captured the spirit of giving and empathy, was met with enthusiastic support from both students and teachers alike.

Teachers and our trusted Meitheal leaders helped organise the night notably PJ Larkin, Paddy Reddin, Kurt Kavanagh, Jack Keyes, Conor Ragget, Jake Darcy, Aidan Moloney, Kai Wilkie, William Barrett, Karl Mulligan and Nathan Duffy.

The students managed to raise an impressive €820.

The funds raised will be donated to Focus Ireland, a renowned organisation that works tirelessly to combat homelessness by providing shelter, support, and advocacy for vulnerable individuals and families.

With winter approaching, the timing of this initiative
couldn’t be more crucial, offering hope and assistance to those in need during the challenging months ahead.

The students, beaming with satisfaction, shared their thoughts on the project.

Tommy Ryan said: “We wanted to do something meaningful for our community.

“Homelessness and various charities are topics we learn about in CSPE and by contributing to Focus Ireland, we hope to make
a positive impact on the lives of people facing this situation.”

This successful fundraising endeavour not only reflects the compassion and commitment of St Mary’s CBS students but also serves as a reminder of the power of collective action which is what their CSPE action project is all about.

These young advocates have shown that change is possible, one act of kindness at a time.

Congratulations to the students, teachers, and everyone involved in this initiative for their dedication to creating a more compassionate and inclusive community.

Together, they have proven that even small gestures can lead to significant and meaningful changes.
