Laois County Council have given the go-ahead for three new planning projects across the County.
Firstly, Abbeyleix Athletic Juvenile Football Club will begin works on an all-weather playing pitch.
The project will also include the erection of fencing and lighting, as well as all associated ancillary works.
This is Phase Two of of a project undertaken in late 2022, when the juvenile committee announced development plans on the outskirts of the town, adjacent to the former Stonearch facility.
The grass pitch from Phase One is almost complete, and this new all-weather pitch will be set aside for training purposes.
It is more good news for the club and the town, following on from being named Ireland’s Tidiest Town last month.
At senior level, Abbeyleix Athletic are the only Laois team playing in the CCFL’s Senior Division; while the newly established ‘B’ team have won four out of four in Division 3.
Arles National School also received planning permission begin development of a new AstroTurf pitch.
The project is to include a sports fencing enclosure and the installation of LED floodlights.
In Ballybrittas, O’Dempsey’s GAA club have applied for permission to construct a detached fitness studio.
Meanwhile, Borris-in-Ossory GAA club have been given the green light to renovate and construct an extension to their clubhouse.
Their application comes with provision for lighting on the existing walkway.
