Shane Keegan’s Cobh Ramblers remained on course for a place in the League of Ireland Premier Division following aggregate victory over Wexford FC last night.
The Rathdowney native took charge of the Cork outfit last year when they were struggling towards the basement of the First Division.
They went on to finish bottom but what Keegan has achieved already this season is nothing short of remarkable.
His side finished third in the table and that set up a two-legged semi final with Wexford FC.
Cobh Ramblers won the home leg 1-0 and then drew 1-1 to cement their place in the Promotion play-off.
They will now take on Waterford FC who got the better of Midland side Athlone Town.
That game will take place next Saturday, November 4, but even if Cobh Ramblers win, they still will not be promoted to the Premier Division.
To achieve that, they will have to beat Waterford and then defeat county rivals Cork City in the Promotion/Relegation play-off final.
Cork City have finished second from bottom in the Premier Division but still have an avenue to safety.
Keegan is achieving all of this while also being the Laois GAA Head of Games development – a role he took in June.
And if all of that wasn’t enough – he also coaches the U-10 Clover United soccer team who play in the Kilkenny League.
A very busy man who will be hoping to keep just as busy for the coming weeks at least!
