There was a meeting in Sligo on Wednesday and a horse that is owned by a Laois man and trained in Laois was victorious.
Shantou Sisu charged to glory in the 5.20pm Cleveragh Handicap Steeplechase.
The horse is owned by Hugh Laing who was formerly a detective in Laois but is now a property developer based in London.
It is trained by Billy Lanigan who is based in Coolrain and formerly of The Heath.
Shantou Sisu went off at odds of 4/1 and claimed the first prize of €6,000.
Ridden by Danny Mullins, the winner was prominent throughout and was left in the lead by the fall of The Red Menace four out.
Joined by He Fitz In entering the home straight, the veteran looked booked for second spot when headed by that rival over the last but the latter landed steeply and came down to leave Shantou Sisu back in front and clear of the remainder.
He won by fifteen lengths in the end with Father Jed in second place.
This was Shantou Sisu’s fourth win of his career and speaking to IrishRacing.com, trainer Billy Lanigan was thrilled.
He said: “He’s a very good horse in his own class and Danny’s ridden him four winners for us.
“We need a rub of the green an odd time!”
Danny Mullins and Billy Lanigan are set to team up again this afternoon in Gowran Park.
They have 11/2 shot Minella Diamond in the 2.40pm Maiden Hurdle.
