Crettyard-based athletics club, St Abban’s are busily preparing for the return of the cross country season this week.
The Club Cross Country took place last weekend on the land of the Graham Family in Tolerton, nestled between Crettyard and Killeshin.
It marked the tentative return of the sport for this season, before things properly take off this coming weekend.
For some athletes this was their first taste of cross country running, while others have become seasoned veterans across grass and mud.
Almost 80 athletes toed the line on a course that was in great condition, given the heavy rain over the last number of days.
The club is hoping to see all these athletes out again next week for Day 1 of the Laois Cross Country Championships, which will take place in the same location.
The schedule for the coming weeks is as follows:
Sunday, September 24, – Laois Cross Country, Day 1 – hosted by St Abban’s AC.
Sunday, October 8 – Laois Cross Country, Day 2 – hosted by Ballyroan-Abbeyleix and District AC.
