Laois County Council are seeking the views of interested parties in relation to the proposed new car parking facility in Durrow.
The proposal is in accordance with the Durrow Community Plan and envisages 40 parking spaces on the east side of Durrow Square.
The spaces world hold a two-hour maximum time limit, between 8.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
Public consultation on the proposed works is open until Monday, October 9.
Mr Paul McLoughlin, Senior Executive for Roads made the announcement at the Borris-in-Ossory-Mountmellick Municipal District meeting last week.
Cllr Ollie Clooney said he fully supported the proposal and welcomed the short time-frame on the matter, saying:
“I’m delighted that it’s the 9th of October – I don’t want a long road into it, I want it implemented as soon as possible.
“This is the first of three measures I want implemented in Durrow – the second is a one-way system; and the third is a car park.
“We’re pulling way above our weight as regards tourism.
“We have a huge amount of traffic passing through that we can’t tap into – if we had parking, Durrow would be a very viable town.
