The 30th running of the Luggacurren 10k took place on Sunday, 10th September. As always there was a great turnout of participants from far and near.
Competition was strong in all categories with Barry McEvoy, Portlaoise AC taking the lead from the outset, a lead he never relinquished to take his first Luggacurren 10k title in a time of 33.55.
He was followed by a strong-running Ronan O’Reilly, Ballyroan/Abbeyleix who battled to the end in a time of 36.51.
David McEvoy, St. Abbans and Tom Dunne, Ballyroan/Abbeyleix had a great battle for third place with David taking 3rd place in a time of 36.56 and Tom 4th with a time of 37.05.
Mckenzie McIvor, SLOT had a great run to take the Junior title in a time of 37.25 followed by Dermot Ayres, St. Abbans in a time of 37.43 to take 1st prize in the Over 40 category.
Seán Delaney took 1st in the Over 50s in a time of 39.56, with Tommy Payne, Tinryland taking the Over 60 prize in a time of 38.16.
In the ladies’ section Aileen Archer, SLOT had a runaway win with a time of 38.04 to take her first Luggacurren title.
The Cashman sisters, Alex and Avril, from Youghall AC came in 2nd and 3rd places, both in a time of 44.00.
Josephine Kileen running in the O 50 category took 4th overall prize in the Women’s category in a time of 46.54 with Bríd Long taking the O 50 prize for a time of 49.08. Mary Claire Delaney claimed 1st prize for the O 40 category in a time of 48.00.
The perpetual cups for the women’s and men’s team event was sponsored by PJ and Martha Dunne, Dunne’s Transport, Shanrath.
Portlaoise AC, Barry McEvoy, Noel Marum, Paul McDonagh and Patrick Marshall won the men’s team with 36 points.
SLOT’s, Aileen Archer, Mary Claire Delaney and Bríd Long won the women’s team with 51 points.
Well done to everyone who turned out for the non-competitive 5K and 10K. A most enjoyable day was had by all!
