In Pictures: Laois players star as Leinster Rugby regain Women’s Interpro title

Kilcavan native, Leah Tarpey scored two tries on the weekend to help Leinster regain the Women’s Interpro title.

Leinster were 33-14 winners over Munster in a fantastic final in Musgrave Park, in Cork.

Munster were going for three-in-a-row, but a Tarpey-inspired Leinster proved too strong, getting their hands on the trophy they last won in 2019.

She is joined on the team by Portlaoise’s Eimear Corri who produced a stunning performance in the second row.

As for Tarpey, she only made her senior debut for the province back in August – a year after she made her Ireland debut on the 2022 tour to Japan.

This puts her in pretty elite company, joining Brian O’Driscoll in the pantheon of players who have donned the green of Ireland before the blue of Leinster.

Munster were leading 14-7 just before half time, but Tarpey forced her way over the line for her first try of the game, with the resulting conversion leaving the sides level at the break.

Tarpey then touched down shortly after the restart to put Leinster ahead for the first time.

They added two more tried before the end as well as keeping the hosts off the score-sheet in the second half to record a famous victory.

Tarpey, who plays at inside centre, was named Player of the match – an incredible achievement just weeks after her debut.

She will be hoping this is the beginning of a long career with Leinster as well as a catapult back into the Irish squad.

At just 20 years old, Tarpey as a huge future ahead of her.
