Public meeting called to address ongoing school transport issue in Laois

Emo/ The Rock Parents’ Group, representing families whose children attend Mountmellick Community Group, have called for a public meeting over the ongoing school transport issue.

They said: “We wish to invite all local families to a public meeting this Thursday evening in Emo Community Centre (R32 KF74) at 7.30pm.”

The latest update shows there are seven pupils with no seats on the post-primary school bus route from Emo/The Rock to Mountmellick Community School.

The Parents’ Group say that Bus Eireann has emailed these families to say the ‘bus is full’.

The parents involved invite all local families, including potential future users of this bus service, to please attend this meeting.

The Parents’ Group spokesperson explains: “Last year, we were successful in the re-establishment of this bus route.

“Such is the demand for this service this year, a bigger bus is needed.

“We are campaigning for the government to sanction same. It is a tough and long battle.”

The Parents’ Group have also invited the three Laois TD’s to the meeting – Seán Fleming, Brian Stanley and Charlie Flanagan.

The spokesperson added: “We are depending on local support again this year.”
