As part of National Heritage Week, a three-day fundraiser has been held in aid of Laois Offaly Families for Autism and The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.
The event took place on Sunday, August 20, and safe to say, a great day was had by all.
Those in attendance included Cllr Thomasina Connell and Heritage Officer, Tom Carolan.
Over €3,000 was raised from the donations and gate raffle – a great start to fundraising efforts.
The sunflowers are organic and organically grown, sown using traditional methods and vintage machinery.
Families flocked through the gates, with golf car rides through the sunflower field for grandparents, thanks to the Heath Golf Club.
The gate raffle had lots of prizes from local businesses, whose support was both generous and much appreciated.
Among the wonderful selection of prizes in Sunday’s raffle was four Curragh Festival Day 2 tickets.
Electric Picnic Tour de Picnic Tickets are up for grabs in this weekend’s raffle, along with tickets to the National Ploughing Championships, and many more exciting prizes.
Colour and music was supplied by the Portlaoise Ukrainian Choir who sang through the afternoon and made beautiful crowns of flowers from the Wildflowers and Sunflowers.
There is still time to get to Heath House, on the Heath and make memories this weekend: Saturday and Sunday, August 26 and 27, from 10:30am to 4:30pm.
