Laois County Council have granted planning permission for a new project at Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise.
The Health Service Executive initially sough permission for the development at the end of June.
The project begins with the retention of two single-storey extensions to the Haemotology / Biochemistry Lab located to the North and South of the existing Lab building.
The Lab building currently houses a Blood Transfusion Lab and ancillary accommodation.
The plan is also for a single storey extension to the Microbiology Lab, located to the South of the existing Building.
There will be a single-storey extension to the Medical Secretary Area and File Storage located to the North of the existing Building facing Dublin Road.
A single-storey tea room extension is to be added, located between the Physio and Medical Secretary areas and an external canopy linking the Haemotology Lab and the Microbiology extension.
The project will see the addition of three single-storey prefabricated units located to the southeast of the existing Lab building facing the existing short term car park.
Internal alterations will be made to the Microbiology, Pathology and Medical Secretaries areas, together with all associated site works.
Midland Regional Hospital is listed as a Protected Structure RPS 180 in the current Laois County Development Plan 2017-2023.
