Laois GAA have announced that Damien Carter will be the new manager of the U-20 hurlers in 2024.
Ballinakill native Carter makes the step up from the minor managers role this year – having served as a selector in 2022.
Currently managing Mountmellick at Intermediate level, Carter succeeds Clough-Ballacolla’s Ollie Hally who held the role for three years.
Chris Murray and Kevin Power are his coaches while Declan Qualter, who was minor manager in 2022, is selector/performance/tactical coach.
Tomas Hassett will be in charge of S&C while Laura Langton and Sara Browne will be Psychologist and physiotherapist with Johnny Fitzpatrick also part of the backroom team.
We previously reported that Kieran Kelly was poised to be appointed as U-20 manager and Ger Slevin to minor.
Laois GAA have confirmed this and have also announced their backroom teams.
Kelly will be assisted by Portlaoise’s Brian ‘Bruno’ McCormack, Ratheniska’s Kieran Delaney and Stradbally’s Billy Delaney – the latter having filled the role of minor selector for the last two years under Conor Gorman.
Slevin will have Adrian Slevin, Brian O’Sullivan, John Connolly, and Mick Lenihan as selectors.
While Laois GDA Donie Brennan will be his coach and Courtwood’s Fergal Byron is goalkeeper coach.
As previously reported, Tipperary’s Willie Maher will continue as Laois senior hurling manager.
But Waterford’s Dan Shanahan, after being named as part of his county’s U-20 set up, will not be with Laois next year.
Instead, Ballinakill’s Eamon Jackman is the only person listed with ‘further additions to be made’.
The roles of senior football and minor hurling manager remain vacant for the coming year.
Laois GAA say: “The process for the selection to fill the open positions of Minor Hurling Manager and Senior Football Manager is currently ongoing where an update will be provided in the coming weeks.
“CLG Laois would like to thank all management teams for their work in 2023.
“Further details will be provided on all management teams for the coming season via laoisgaa.ie after September County Committee.”
