An almost 24-acre residential farm at Ballickmoyler has sold for €600,000, or just over €25,000 an acre.
The land was sold recently by Hennessy Auctioneers at an online auction.
The circa 23.75-acre farm near Ballickmoyler was guided at €600,000 and was initially offered in three lots.
Lot 1 comprised the cottage on circa one acre, Lot 2 was the 22.75 acres of arable land and Lot 3 was the entire.
There were five registered bidders and after five rounds of bidding it was decided to put the entire on the market at €600,000.
There were no further bids received at this time and the hammer fell at the €600k, for an average of €25,263 per acre. This was almost double the average price paid in Laois in 2022, which was €12,787.

Meanwhile, Hennessy Auctioneers also recently sold a circa 48-acre block of land in need of reclamation/reseeding in the Pike of Rushall area.
This was guided at €400k and was offered for sale in one lot by online auction.
There were six registered bidders, mainly from the locality and after four rounds of bidding it was decided to put the entire on the market at €405k
After more competitive bidding it was successfully sold at €450k (€9,375 per acre) to an auctioneer on behalf of a client in trust.
