The 2023 Senior and Intermediate football championships got underway at venues across the county last week.

Six of the eight senior games were played in O’Moore Park with one in Stradbally and one in Ratheniska.

The action began on Wednesday night as O’Dempsey’s enjoyed victory over Graiguecullen.

Thursday saw St Joseph’s get the better of Portlaoise for the first time in the championship since 2003.

On Friday, Ballyroan-Abbey got the better of Park-Ratheniska in Stradbally while champions Portarlington got by Ballyfin in O’Moore Park.

Saturday saw four matches taking place with Arles-Killeen defeating Clonaslee-St Manman’s in Ratheniska.

O’Moore Park had a triple header where Emo defeated Rosenallis, Stradbally beat Courtwood and Killeshin defeated The Heath.

In the Intermediate, Arles-Kilcruise defeated Mountmellick in Timahoe while Ballyroan-Abbey beat Timahoe in Mountmellick.

Portlaoise got the better of O’Dempsey’s in the all-second team battle while Ballylinan defeated Crettyard in a classic.

We had two photographers present at the matches this week – Stradbally’s Ross Molloy and Graiguecullen’s Paul Dargan.

Ross covered the SFC meetings involving Ballyroan-Abbey and Park-Ratheniska, Stradbally and Courtwood plus Killeshin and The Heath.

While Paul covered the remaining SFC games and took in the IFC clash between Arles-Kilcruise and Mountmellick.
