Portlaoise Boxing Club is set to receive €30,000 in funding under the Collaborative and Innovation Fund (CIF).
The funding has been earmarked to help support Portlaoise Boxing Club carry out their ‘POW Boxing Clever’ project.
The project aims to help adults learn literacy and numeracy skills.
Portlaoise Boxing Club has produced several outstanding boxers over the years and the Club plays a key role in the life of many young people in the town.
Accessing literacy supports can be very difficult for adults and this new project by Portlaoise Boxing Club will help adults learn to read and count through boxing.
Laois Offaly TD, Sean Fleming, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs welcomed Government funding.
He said: “I am pleased to see this Government funding for Portlaoise Boxing Club.
“I look forward to this new programme continuing the great tradition of this boxing club in Portlaoise.”
