Pat Crowe and Annette Gorman from Mountmellick are embarking on a life-affirming sky dive – all in the name of a good cause.
The pair will be taking the plunge on Sunday, July 30th at 12pm with the Irish Parachute Club in Clonbollogue.
The jump will be a free fall from 13,000 feet at a speed of 200 km per hour.
Pat will be taking the jump for Barretstown, a charity that offers free, specially designed camps and programmes for children and their families living with a serious illness – supported behind the scenes by 24-hour on site medical and nursing care.
All of the children and families come to Barretstown free of charge. Everything, including accommodation, food and medical assistance are provided at no cost to the family.
Barretstown is supported by donations and the fundraising efforts of corporate supporters, individuals and community groups.
Pat works in Applegreen who have partnered with Barretstown as part of the Applegree Charitable Fund, designed to ‘give back’ to the communities in which Applegreen operates.
Pat says he is not the biggest fan of heights, to say the least, “but at my age, it’s time to try something a bit different.”
He will be joined on the day by Annette Gorman, who is doing her sky dive in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation.
The IHF have been working to save lives since 1966.
Every year in Ireland almost 9,000 people die from heart disease and stroke, making it one of the nation’s biggest killers.
On top of that, hundreds of thousands of people in Ireland are living with a heart condition or the effects of a stroke.
You can donate to the GoFundMe here, and help these two wonderful charities, or call in-store to Applegreen Mountmellick to donate in person.
