A local Councillor has called for urgent works to be carried out by Laois County Council around the area of The Rock National School.
Fianna Fáil Cllr, Paddy Bracken was speaking at the Borris-in-Ossory-Mountmellick Municipal District Committee meeting this week.
Cllr Bracken called for the Council to carry out road safety measures at the school, saying the speed is frightening in the area and that a ramp needs to be installed urgently.
Mr. James Dowling, Senior Executive Engineer at the Road Design Office said: “The road design office will investigate the opportunity for improvements and safety measures at this location.”
Cllr Bracken also called for urgent safety improvement works at Derrydavy, Mountmellick, at the junction of L-2120 and L-21202.
“People in that area are living in fear,” he said. “We need a short-term solution immediately before this can be addressed going forward.”
Mr. James Dowling, Senior Executive Engineer at the Road Design Office said:”The road design office is currently investigating options at this location.
“The existing speed radar is to be relocated, road lining to be refreshed. The situation will be reviewed following the implementation of these measures.
Cllr Bracken concluded by asking that the Council move the location of the traffic lights at the town side of the bridge at Manor Road, Mountmellick”
Mr. Dowling, said the road design office “will investigate the issue at this location and establish if a relocation of the traffic signals is appropriate and/or if an alternative solution can be identified.”
