Portlaoise could be in line for a new drive through café if all goes according to plan

MBCC Foods (Ireland) Ltd have applied to Laois County Council for planning permission at their site in Portlaoise Retail Park.

The application is to develop a drive-through at their Costa Coffee premises in the heart of the retail park.

The project is to include a canopy and service hatch on the northern side of the Costa Coffee unit.

A height restrictor and/or an entrance barrier is to be erected on the access lane.

All associated hard and soft landscaping will also be carried out.

This will result in the removal of 18 existing car parking spaces.

The application also states that: “Provision of associated signage consisting of 2 directional signs, 1 order station, 1 menu board, 2 advertisement signs and 2 totem signs of 6 and 8 metres in height respectively.

“Alterations to all elevations of the Costa Coffee unit, including the provision of new signage on all elevations, and a new entrance canopy on the southern elevation.

“Alterations to the outdoor seating areas, relocation of the bin store and cycle parking, landscaping and all associated development.”

Paul Hamil has been named as the architect for the development.

A decision is due to be made on the drive-through by Tuesday, August 15.
