€12,000 has been awarded for the upgrade Laois walking trails under the Walks Scheme.
Sean Fleming TD, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the news.
He said: “I am pleased to see this funding announced today by the Government for Laois walking trails.
“It will improve trail surfaces and deliver additional seating and signage for the benefit of walkers, tourists and families alike.”
Funding will be provided to Laois Partnership to maintain the trails and the upkeep of the trails.
€10,000 has been allocated for maintenance and repair of two pedestrian bridges on the Offaly Way.
The additional €2,000 has been earmarked for a tree-trimming project on the Slieve Bloom Way.
Maintenance and general tree cutting repair will take place which are currently causing obstruction to trail users,
The initiative is designed to boost outdoor recreation and adventure tourism and to enhance some of the county’s popular outdoor trails.
The popularity of our walking trails here in Laois has exploded in recent years and these upgrades are an increasingly necessary project.
