Two Laois students have co-founded a chess technology company based in Portlaoise

Two Laois students have co-founded a brand-new technology company in Portlaoise.

Tarun and Trisha Kanyamarala, former students from Portlaoise College, are the current National Chess Champions.

This has inspired their start-up – the newly established Ireland Chess Technology Limited (ICTL).

Tarun and Trisha opened their office at the Portlaoise Enterprise Centre beside Roll n’ Bowl in Clonminam Industrial Estate.

They held the inauguration ceremony of their Company on Tuesday, 26th of June.

Guests for ceremony were James Harvey, Business and Music teacher at Portlaoise College; James Forde, CBE Software Director;and graduate students from Portlaoise College and Maynooth University.

During the event, the founders presented their vision and mission, emphasising their commitment to nurturing the chess community in Ireland.

The chief guest at the event was the founders’ business teacher at Portlaoise College.

“Our study of Business during Leaving Cert played a pivotal role in shaping our understanding of entrepreneurship and business,” Tarun and Trisha said.

“We would like to thank the Portlaoise Enterprise Centre and Patricia Frayne, Centre Coordinate for supporting us in establishing our office here.

“We believe that being in a a productive environment like the Portlaoise Enterprise Centre will kick-start our entrepreneurial journey.”
