Two Laois men are going to get themselves accidentally lost out west, all in the name of a good cause.
Cormac Doyle and Jack Connolly, both from Ballyfin, will embark on a charity cycle, starting this Thursday, June 29.
The journey will be (at least) four days long and take in over 400km of road.
The lads will set off from their native Ballyfin en route to Lisdoonvarna in County Clare.
From there, the pair will head to Galway, Clifden in Connemara, and end up in Westport, County Mayo.
And just to make life a little more difficult, they will be doing the cycle with no maps, no accommodation booked and no training.
“This all started with a conversation in the pub about cycling everywhere when we were young lads,” Cormac said.
“We had planned on doing a big cycle last summer but as things go it never happened. Jack mentioned it again a couple of months ago so we said we’d just go for it.
“We both booked the days off work and proceeded to do absolutely no training what so ever.
Cormac and Jack have said all the proceeds will be distributed evenly between the Irish Heart Foundation and Mental Health Ireland.
“I chose Irish Heart foundation as I lost my dad to a heart attack when he was just 47 and they do a lot for heart care in Ireland and raising awareness,” Jack said.
“And I chose mental health Ireland because there’s a serious problem with mental health in Ireland and I don’t think enough is being done about it so hopefully the money raised is going to be put to good use,” Cormac said.
You can donate to the GoFundMe here, where €1,285 has already been raised.
