A local councillor has called on Laois County Council to take action on the derelict sites in Triogue Manor regarding ownership and future use of the sites.
Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley was speaking at the Portlaoise Municipal District Committee meeting this week.
Mr David O’Hara, Senior Planner said: “Nishta Ltd is the registered owner of the 2 sites (50 and 51 Triogue Manor). A second notice of intent to enter the land as a derelict site was served to the owners on the 13th of June.
“The owner has responded verbally, indication intention to address the derelict site notices and bring forward proposals for developing the sites.”
Cllr Stanley said she was disappointed with the response, noting that this is not the first time she has raised the motion.
Cllr Stanley said the site needs fencing and health and safety upgrades, but said she feels “disillusioned” to hear the same language being used and the same attitude to this situation as has been demonstrated in the past.
The Sinn Féin Cllr called on the site owner to give concrete plans within the next 3 months for what they will do at the site.
Calling the news a set-back, Cllr Stanley suggested the Council consider a CPO (Compulsory Purchase Order) on the site.
There was a more positive response when Cllr Stanley also called for an update on the taking charge of Borris Meadows.
Ms Evelyn Brownrigg, Administrations Officer of Planning said: “Belgrave Construction have engaged J Conlon Construction to address the outstanding works and are currently on site to carry out repairs.
“It is invisioned that these works should be completed in the next 3 to 4 weeks with a final road surfacing being done immediately after.
“Once fully completed we should be able to recommend the development to be taken in charge.”
