Laois County Council announce update on completion date for new lake trail

A local councilor has called on Laois County Council to provide an update on the path to be installed around the three lakes in Kilminchy.

Cllr Thomasina Connell was speaking at the Portlaoise Municipal District Committee meeting this week.

The project in question refers to the proposed ‘Kilminchy Lakes Trail,’ where grant funding under the ORIS scheme was previously granted in the sum of €30,000.

Mr Wes Wilkinson, Senior Executive Engineer said: “It is expected that the proposed ‘Kilminchy Lakes trail’ footpath will be installed by the end of September 2023.”

Cllr Connell also called on the County Council to install ramps at Colliers View and Hawthorn Way, Esker Hills.

As well as this, the Fine Gael Cllr requested an update on the CIS application for Hillview Estate, Knockmay, Portlaoise.

Mr Wilkinson said: “The Portlaosie MD Office will install a traffic calming ramp in Colliers View Portlaoise and Hawthorn Way, Esker hills in the coming weeks.

Cllr Connell said this would send a strong message regarding speed, especially during the summer months when children are out of school.

Mr Paul McLoughlin, Senior Engineer told the committee: “Hillview Estate, Knockmay is included on the approved list of Community Involvement Schemes for completion in 2023.”

Cllr Connell acknowledged the “great work done by the Residents Association,” siting the green in particular as being “like a golf course.”
