An information session for businesses in Portlaoise and surrounding areas on the future Portlaoise Energy Master Plan will be held this week.
Laois County Council and Laois Chamber Alliance are inviting businesses from Portlaoise and surrounding areas to learn more about the Portlaoise Energy Master Plan and to have their say.
They will also have the opportunity to learn more about making their business greener and more sustainable.
The event will take place in the Midlands Park Hotel, on Thursday June 22 from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Speaking about the event, Caroline Hofman, on behalf of Laois Chamber Alliance said: “We are delighted to be joined by members of Laois County Council’s Climate Action Team, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), and Local Enterprise Office Laois to discuss the future Portlaoise Energy Master Plan and how businesses can become greener and more sustainable as we all work towards our climate targets.
“With Portlaoise designated Ireland’s first Low Carbon Town, this is an excellent opportunity for us to become leaders in this area and act as a demonstrator town both in Ireland and internationally.
“This will also set us apart in terms of targeting companies with a sustainability focus to invest in Laois.
“This will be a very informative event, and we want to hear from businesses in the area to help shape the development of the Master Plan.
“The Energy Master Plan will look at improving energy efficiency and reducing energy usage in Portlaoise, as well as looking at potential projects to benefit the decarbonisation and sustainability of the town.”
Suzanne Dempsey, Climate Action Coordinator, Laois County Council added: “By actively participating in the consultation for Sustainable Energy Community and contributing to the development of the Energy Master Plan for Portlaoise, businesses in Portlaoise are not only shaping a sustainable future, but also positioning themselves at the forefront of innovation and progress.
“Their involvement in this vital process will serve as a catalyst for the Portlaoise Low Carbon Town project, creating a resilient and thriving community that embraces a sustainable future and fosters economic growth.”
This event is open to all businesses in Portlaoise and surrounding areas, but registration is essential as places are limited. Please e-mail caroline@laoischamber.ie to confirm your place.
