Sean Fleming, Minister of State in the Department of Foreign Affairs, has confirmed that two schools in Laois have been given approval for extensions.
Newtown National School has been given approval for a Special Education Needs extension.
Located in the Doonane parish, the school is closely associated with Crettyard GAA club.
Timahoe National School, meanwhile, has been given approval for one new mainstream classroom.
The school is always a hive of activity, recently organising the inaugural Timahoe Truck and Tractor run.
Speaking on the announcement, Deputing Fleming said: “I would like to acknowledge the great work by the Principals, Teachers, SNAs, Parents and Boards of Management to ensure every student has access to the school which helps them achieve their full potential.
“I look forward to these new classrooms being available to students in Newtown National School and Scoil Mhuire Fatima National School in Timahoe, Co. Laois.”
