1 – Growing friendship sees Daniel and Majella O’Donnell open Rathdowney community gardens

A friendship that flourished over 35 years between Fr Martin Delaney and Daniel O’Donnell will see the  singer and his wife officially open Rathdowney’s new community garden.

The event will take place on Wednesday, June 28.

2 – Laois man enters the running to become next IFA national president

Francie Gorman from Spink is set to contest for the position of IFA national president later this year.

He is the current South Leinster chairman and has become the first candidate to declare his intention to run.

3 – Laois man appointed to key role with top Welsh rugby club

Laois man Shane Carney has been appointed as Head of Athletic Performance with professional Welsh rugby club Llanelli Scarlets.

The Emo native had been working with Ulster for the past couple of seasons and prior to that with Super League Rugby League side Hull Kingston Rovers.

Organisers of the Timahoe Heritage Festival couldn’t have hoped for a better weekend as the hugely popular annual event took centre stage again in the picturesque Laois village.

The sun shone brightly all weekend as the crowds flocked to the Round Tower village where there was a wide variety of entertainment and activities for all ages.

5 – Kildare native appointed as the new General Manager of The Heritage in Laois

Paul Beehan, a 38-year-old hotelier from the Curragh in Kildare, is the newly appointed General Manager of The Heritage in Laois.

He is a graduate of the prestigious Shannon College of Hotel Management and has dedicated over 25 years of his life to the hospitality industry.

6 – Laois business owner seeks planning permission for a new three-storey gym in Portlaoise

Laois business owner John Watchorne has applied for planning permission to turn the old Eason’s building in Portlaoise into a new three-storey gym.

This building is currently located in Lyster Square in between EuroGiant and Browne’s Jewellers.

7 – A major employer in Laois has been acquired by a global infrastructure manager

Enva, a leading provider of recycling and resource recovery solutions, has announced that it has reached an agreement to be acquired by I Squared Capital, an independent global infrastructure manager, from private equity firm Exponent.

Enva employ 380 people in Ireland, including 130 people in Portlaoise at their site in Clonminam Business Park.
