A former Laois footballer is set to start for New York yesterday in their Tailteann Cup clash with Carlow.
Killeshin’s Shane Bolger has been named at corner back for the American outfit.
Bolger last played for his home club last September when they defeated Ballylinan in the Senior relegation final.
After playing minor and U-20 for Laois, he last played senior for the county in a Division 3 win over Wicklow last year.
He transferred to New York this year but has not appeared in either of their games to date.
They famously defeated Leitrim with Bolger not in the squad and then lost to Sligo in the Connacht semi final where Bolger was an unused sub.
But he is named to start this afternoon against the county of his father – with dad Jim the current Carlow GAA chairman.
This will be a historic occasion in Dr Cullen Park as it will be New York’s first ever Tailteann Cup game and it throws in at 5pm.
Shane’s younger brother Ross signed a contract with American Football Division One College side Idaho on Thursday too – so it is a very busy week for the Bolger family.
