School of Rock – Laois students create ‘Schools Out’ music video

Young musicians from The Rock NS, Mountmellick have launched a video showcasing their adventures with their bodhráns.

The students take part in the bodhrán programme, provided by the wonderful Music Generation Laois.

This imaginative video, ‘Schools Out’, shows that the creative spirit is alive and well in The Rock National School, among young musicians, and also teachers Michael Fennelly and Maggie Hyland, and School Principal, Liam Ahern.

Dale McKay and Terry Byrne from Music Generation Laois  developed the video with the children’s ideas as inspiration, with the young bodhrán players featuring as the central characters.

Music Generation Laois will run a 3 day Trad Summer School from the the 28th to the 30th of June in Laois Music Centre, with bodhrán classes taking place across the 3 days.

There are also classes in tin whistle, harp, trad flute, concertina and uilleann pipes.

The Summer School takes place in Laois Music Centre, Church Avenue, Portlaoise and is open to age 8 upwards, from recent beginners to advanced, and costs €60.
