Laois Labs Flag Football Club took part in the American Football Ireland mixed tournament in Gormanstown on Saturday recently.
Flag Football is a non-contact version of American football, where tackles are made by pulling off flags which all players wear on their hips.
The team won all their games all the way to the final, including defeating the National Flag Football Champions, the South Dublin Panthers.
The team eventually finished second after narrowly losing to the Panthers in a rematch in the final.
Laois Labs were founded in November 2022 by a group of friends passionate about Flag Football and their home county of Laois.
The mixed tournament in Gormanstown was the Clubs first competitive game.
The club would like to thank the tournament organisers who have put a massive effort into organising the event to help promote women in sport and highlighting the spirit of Flag Football.
Laois Labs welcomes beginners to the sport and say it is very easy to pick up.
Club Secretary Julian Nagi said: “The tournament was a great success, showcasing the hard work and dedication we’ve put in since founding the club last year.
“I would like to in particular congratulate our head coach Hayley and rookie sensation Gabbie for stepping up and partaking in every play of the tournament.
“If you are interested in joining the club or have questions about Flag Football, you can contact Laois Labs on our Instagram page or on laoislabs@gmail.com.”
