Last Monday was a huge occasion for four Laois schools who took part in the Stem Vex Robotics Competition.
The four competing schools were Scoil Eoin Phoil Naofa Ballyroan, Emo National School, Camross National School and Shanganamore National School Barrowhouse with 5th and 6th class students taking part.
All four schools received their robots and game in February and in a few short months they have built their Robot to play the game.
As part of the program, all schools have also learned and practiced coding.
Scoil Eoin Phoil Ballyroan hosted the event for over 80 students with all teams playing six games along with individual challenges. There was also a Coding exhibition on the day.
This program is being rolled out by Antoinette Brennan Broadband Officer Laois County Council in association with Department of Rural and Community Development.
Each school was presented with a certificate with all students receiving an individual certificate.
Next up for these students is the All Ireland Finals in the ATU Campus Castlebar on Thursday, June 1.
The excitement is building in all schools now for this event and the students are very proud to be representing their schools and county.
This is the first time this has been offered to schools in Laois and it is hoped with the availability of funding and sponsorship this program will be rolled out to many more schools in September with the overall goal to have this program in all primary and secondary schools in Laois.
