Noel Stapleton, Oifigeach Gaeilge agus Cultúr for Laois GAA has announced that the association will be hosting the Laois Scór na bPáistí on Saturday, 13th May at 3pm in Mountrath.
Established in 1969, Scór is a GAA competition that combines all the colour and rivalry of Gaelic Games with the social element of Ireland’s traditional past-times.
Just like the All-Ireland Football and Hurling Championships, clubs taking part in Scór will compete on a county level, provincial level, and finally on to the All-Ireland Final.
This will be the children’s iteration, as they compete in in set dancing, céilí dancing, solo singing, ballad groups, instrumental music, novelty act, table quiz, and recitation.
There are some specific rules, including:
- Ballad Groups and Solo Singing: each group/singer will sing one song each.
- Ceol Uirlise: each group will only perform one tune each.
- Set Dancing and Céilí Dancing: each group will only perform one dance each.
The event will take place in St Fintan’s Hall, beside the church in Mountrath.
Laois GAA ask that you please confirm your participation in the Scór na bPáistí via email by Friday 5th of May, to irishculturalofficer.laois@gaa.ie .
All competitions and rules regarding size of groups are the same as those as can be found here.
