Second Year North Leinster ‘B’ Hurling Final

Mountrath Community School claimed North Leinster Second Year hurling glory yesterday afternoon.

The side, coached by Laois senior hurler Aaron Dunphy and Tipperary native Michael Breen, had four points to spare over Colaiste Mhuire Mullingar.

Mountrath led this one from start to finish, getting ahead of their opponents in the first half.

Castletown’s Daniel Whelan was influential here as he converted points from frees and play.

While Camross’ Luke Hynes also contributed on the scoreboard as they led 0-7 to 0-4 at half time.

This side are captained by Mountrath’s Donnacha Carroll and he gave a masterful performance from centre back throughout.

He also fired over two long range points to keep Mountrath CS ahead in the game.

They then sprung Camross’s Jacob Hilliard from the bench in the second half and he reacted first to a loose ball to fire in a crucial goal.

This competition does go on to Leinster level so this team will have either a Leinster semi final or final to look forward to in the coming weeks.
